Health Services Administration
Program Description
The Health Services Administration track is especially suited to students who move from providing services directly to supervisory and programmatic responsibilities. Administrators learn skills needed to handle economic, legal, regulatory, political, historical, and social demands in the health service field.Admission Requirements
Beyond the general graduate program requirements, the Health Services Administration track also has the following additional requirements:
- Minimum 2.75 undergraduate grade point average
- Minimum 800 on the GRE or 400 on the MAT
On Line Option
To serve both mid-career and pre-service students, most classes meet one evening a week, with some offered on-line and on Saturdays.
Career Opportunities
Possible career paths range from associate manager to assistant director to chief administrator in either the public or private sector. Some occupations include: clinical operations director, department director, private practice administrator, HMO director, pharmaceutical representative, as well as positions in various health departments, academic medical centers, mental health agencies, regulatory agencies and community-based agencies.

Curriculum
This Degree is subjected to the following requirements
- All students must complete the common core for the degree.
- A minimum B average in core courses, with no more than two Cs, and a minimum grade of B in option courses are required for degree completion.
- No more than 17 semester credit hours in the D. Abbott Turner College of Business courses, including transferred credit, may be credited toward the MPA degree.
- Satisfactory completion of the Comprehensive Examination (MPAC 7000) is required for graduation. The examination is based on courses taken and normally is completed in the last semester of enrollment. It is the responsibility of the student to register for MPAC 7000 in the appropriate semester. The examination is drawn up and graded by a committee appointed by the program director, which includes core and option faculty. The director is eligible to serve on the examination committee. A candidate who fails the examination will be eligible for re-examination during the next semester. Students in the general government and justice administration options may substitute MPAC 7999 (Thesis) for MPAC 7000.

- MPAC 7146 Organization Theory and Behavior
Select one course from the following two courses:
- MPAC 7156 Legal Environment of Admin
- COMM 5139 Dispute Resolution
Area 2 Concentration - Required Hours: 18
- 18 semester hours of MPAH coursework numbered 5000G or higher, or substitutions as approved by the Program Director.
Area 3 Additional Requirements - Required Hours: 0
- MPAC 7000 MPA Comprehensive Exam
- Students may choose to substitute MPAC 7137 (Project Design) and MPAC 7999 (Thesis) for MPAC 7000 (MPA Comprehensive Examination) and for two of the option courses above
